Paul Scher's Aiga Raleigh's Cigarette Poster

The cigarette poster was designed in 1994 shows a combination of type and image.

The poster is consisted of only two colors: the black background and the white color of letters and the cigarette.

The dominance in the poster is the cigarette because:

+ It has the contrast color compare to the background

+ It is in the center of the poster, and its height is about 4 /5 of the poster’s, and it divide the poster into two half.

Balance: Asymmetrical balance because of the block of words.

Proportion: The weight of the cigarrete compared to the background is give off the feeling of the weight and depth of those or which are around the cigarette.

Unity: Both the image and the letter font are rather mechanic: picture taken by camera, and letter are typing (not by drawing and writing by hand).

Line: Vertical line.

Personal opinion:

+ Those who are involved with the cigarette, whether use it (smoking) or just stay around it are having dark future.

+ With the vertical line, it gives off the feeling that men, or women (represent by the block) is small compare to the cigarette, I means literally, the smokers would find it difficult to escape the cigarette's power (difficult to quit it once involve with it).

Teaset

Try to make a tea set using 3Dmax. I thought that a table with a Z shape which consist of glass and the metal at the border is a bit innovation(or something like modern, can't put it into words though). It is light, easy to carry, suitable in a living room. On it is a teapot, an ashtray and 3 tea cups. I believed that the best tea cup for drinking tea is the Japanese ones, so I make them. Since I do not know how to arrange them on the table, I just plainly put them like that.

alien dog bhwaahwahwahwa

I made the dog on 3Dmax. However, it look more like alien or ghost dog though:)).

entry 4

It is one of Buddha's quote. the font for attachments is a 19th century font, which was used for commercial ads. I also emphasize the words comes from, so that the whole quote, which is originally mean all of one's sorrow, or sadness or pain come from one's own attachments to the worlds, was changed into the meaning that all our suffering comes from advertising.

entry 3

The quote is quite interesting, the first line comes from Christian teaching, whereas the latter was created to contrast or supplement the first idea. When I choose the font for the word forgive, I want it to be friendly, gentle, and soft in order to reflect the word meaning. Then I try to find a sharp, hostile font to reflect the feeling of hatred, and hostility.

escape

This picture reminded me of a scene of a Roman colosseum. The balance of the picture is approximately symmetrical. There is a large proportion of the wall in the picture, which make it a dominant element in the picture. The wall has the geometric form, which consisted mostly of curved and straight line. The straight line of the stone gives off a strong, close and uncomfortable feeling, while the curved line brings the feeling of being surrounded. The main color in the picture is brown of stone. All of these, the proportion, the lines , the form, the color and the low angle in the picture give me a feeling of wanting to escape, but is impossible to do so

castle

I found this photograph on the internet. This picture is approximately symmetric balance. In the picture, the road is the dominance, as it is placed in the center, and the castle is the sub-dominance since it is place in the center, and it is connected by the road, but it is placed far back. Also, there is a resemblance in the picture with Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture style, which combine the horizontal line of the castle and the surrounding environment elements. There is also a combination of organic form of the land and geometric form of castle, and road.
