Paul Scher's Aiga Raleigh's Cigarette Poster

The cigarette poster was designed in 1994 shows a combination of type and image.

The poster is consisted of only two colors: the black background and the white color of letters and the cigarette.

The dominance in the poster is the cigarette because:

+ It has the contrast color compare to the background

+ It is in the center of the poster, and its height is about 4 /5 of the poster’s, and it divide the poster into two half.

Balance: Asymmetrical balance because of the block of words.

Proportion: The weight of the cigarrete compared to the background is give off the feeling of the weight and depth of those or which are around the cigarette.

Unity: Both the image and the letter font are rather mechanic: picture taken by camera, and letter are typing (not by drawing and writing by hand).

Line: Vertical line.

Personal opinion:

+ Those who are involved with the cigarette, whether use it (smoking) or just stay around it are having dark future.

+ With the vertical line, it gives off the feeling that men, or women (represent by the block) is small compare to the cigarette, I means literally, the smokers would find it difficult to escape the cigarette's power (difficult to quit it once involve with it).
